yeah it does seem kinda counter-intuitive as a lifestyle and or propogating a cultural avatar--flying boldly and bawdily the flag of alternative lifestyle while simultaneously unfolding the wondrous vine of culturally identity disseminating plank of demanded indifferance in the form of equal justice and injustice, you know on purely class, money and ones access to power--the same crap the rest of us have to deal with.
But then the image of a densly muscled flamboyantly attired male of unidentifiable race wearing a lavender fake fur boa hunching his hulking shoulder against the winds of bigotry is well kinda like a giant matza ball lodged in heaping serving of collard greens and fat back, I mean I like some of the jewish cuisine but I never mix soul food with say gefilta fish or even you know corn beef and sourkraut.

i thought you guys would realize that was mostly tongue in cheek--given my previously ardent arguments in supoort of a live and don't try to prosyletize with a gun and a hammer or even use the deep seated religiosity and faith of a populace conditioned to agree with the celebrity status of big time preacher and politicians who confuse and cover up the message of Christ with a lot of finger pointing and contempt.

apologies are unnecessary; we are all entitled to our opinions. i was being sardonic as well, at least in ΒΆ #1.
personally, i think you straights *should* have a parade. this world would not be ruined by more parades and festivities. why, we could have a parade of some sort every day. would that form of entertainment be worse than television, etc? i seriously doubt it. parade away, ye breeders!
(as if my condemnation of the idea would do anything to stop you anyway)

of course, if i've heard this "straight pride parade" argument a zillion times, it seems that the real reason for calling it gay *pride* isn't ever even addressed.
did you heterosexuals languish in shame and societal derision wrought by a certain passage in an old 'holy' book? no? see, that's why it is called gay 'pride'. its about turning something that is still "swept under the rug", with a ridiculous stigma of shamefulness, into something that is commonplace and mundane.
in the past 3000 years there have been hundreds of millions of persons who, for whatever reason, never had any children. so the argument that this age-old oppression of gays is justified because of a need to keep the population going seems rather moot. some would say that civilizations themeselves began as a result of overpopulation in various areas.
additionally, homosexuality has been observed in hundreds of mammals and avians, both overpopulated and underpopulated. no correlation has been shown between the trivial presence of homos (3-5%) and population decline in either case.
in the greek and roman classical period, amongst others, it was perfectly acceptable to live a bisexual life. and it has always been acceptable to live a heterosexual life. but there are basically zero recorded instances of a society tolerating a specifically homosexual element prior to germany in the late 19th century ("urnings"). yes, that's right. germany, of all places, seems to have been the first one to tolerate gays being (relatively) out in the open. berlin is said to have had over twenty "gay bars", munich, some fifteen.
of course, there were those mysterious marriages of two ladies during 16th century (i think?) england. but then, there were homos burned at the stake in that same time period.
indeed, one must wonder about the sex lives of history's pirates, almost always sailing or hiding for months on end in male-only environments. which type of booty were they seeking when these guys became pirates? certainly, there must have been a few who realized it was the only obvious place to meet other guys.
so have your straight pride parade. i had no idea the weight of the ages had induced secret shame amongst the heterosexual population. you'd never guess it, from all the heterosexually themed movies books plays myths etc; or the continued refusal of most school boards to teach anything at all about homosexuality, while gleefully teaching the whole process of straight sex, right down to how to provide a woman with an orgasms, so that it isn't just the guy getting off. oh wait, that doesn't happen. maybe you do need a parade.
at any rate, what is really needed is a "love_pride_parade" where the concept of love is displayed in all of its myriad forms...be it banal, bizarre, or beguiling.
