I don't want to constantly be in touch with my friends and family. I don't want them to always be able to call me. Screw technology.

screw technology has evolved far beyond simple screw drivers and steel threaded pins. Now, DIY enthusiasts can utilise titanium screws, electronic screwdrivers and much, much more.

more people live in poverty now than before we went to the moon, both quantatively and percentagely... more people starve now than did prior to genetically modified foods; the suicide rate is up in spite of online dating and SSRIs and therapies, etc. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

According to my 1969 "New Standard Encyclopedia," the world population as of 1962 "is" 3.135 billion, of whom 13.7% (430 million) live in conditions described as "extremely impoverished". Dan Smith's 1999 "State of the World Atlas", the world population as of 1998 is 5.99 billion, of whom 1.3 billion (21%) live in "absolute poverty". As to what constitutes "extreme impoverishment" and "absolute poverty," it is not clear. According to the UNDP's 1998 "Human Development Report," the suicide rate in the U.S.A. in 1995 was 25/100,000 persons. According to the aforementioned 1969 New Standard Encyclopedia, the suicide rate in the U.S.A. was estimated at 1/4,231 persons during the years spanning 1958 to 1962. SSRI usage has increased significantly since 1995, when they were relatively new. The drug Paxil has recently been linked to an increased rate of suicide, but this has not been shown for all SSRIs. So many factors affect the suicide rate that it is almost impossible to make definite claims about causes and solutions. Certainly there is more technology in the U.S.A. during the compared periods but there are also more people. Is the U.S.A. an appropriate "barometer" for such considerations? Objectivity is elusive, that is the lone certainty! I didn't look for any stats pertaining to "who starves" since that seems excessively subjective a claim, though the "poverty" and "impoverishment" stats above seem as if they would cover that territory. Of course, it is no secret that statistics can be found to back up most plausible claims, and "lying" with statistics is by now a quite common practice...see advertisements.

Also, I'd speculate that the decade of 1929-39 had the highest suicide rate of the 20th century (though I couldn't rapidly produce any stats for it), the rise and fall of which had of course nothing to do with SSRIs nor much to do with technological development; at least, as to the latter, not directly.

i am getting increasingly frustrated with all operating systems. macs are too dumbed down and "simplified", linux is too much of a bitch to get to work, and windows is just this giant disaster, even if its the most capable for someone who doesnt want to deal with linux, and the most convenient (filetypes and programs), things just freeze, there are glitches and holes everywhere, it is not at all a smooth package. its like the alpha release of what windows should be. and so, screw that particular aspect of technology.

*chuckles* I find it awfully funny that Windows has that name; considering that i often want to throw my computer out the window when it isn't working. Talk about being appropriately named... ;P
