I was broken and bent and desperate. I reached out for her, and she didn't reply. I thought it was out of spite. I thought she was trying to hurt me. Being heartless. So I lashed out. Said something unforgivable. By some miracle she didn't see it. She didn't see any of it. Only by apologising I showed her what I'd done. And when she asked exactly what I'd said, I told her.
