many parents are shocked when they discover that teaching at the music store is my only job. but i am not a starving artist by any means. truth is, we don't NEED most of the stuff we have. and i still have plenty that could only be seen as want. yes, i still have the means to choose 'fancy' over 'necessary' and am still building a surplus. six figures are not necessary for happiness and contentment.

Unnecessary things are a byproduct of a free society. If we wish to reduce them the only ethical means is through persuasion. But then what shall become of those who earn a living through the production of unnecessary things? But why a rapacious consumer_culture? The last time I purchased an unnecessary thing I don't recall taking it by force. ...

It is our psyches that are raped by the culture. Conditioned to buy, groomed to need. Why is that coke/pepsi in your fridge? We can't see how our consuming selves are a product of advertising. It's proprietary marketing psychology as secret as Coke's formula.

until we realize ego is just a trick we play on ourselves capitalism just makes the rich richer and the poor poorer while forcing nature into extinction. is completely disdainful but sometimes still finds herself falling

Ah, our psyches are raped. We are conditioned. We are victims. Victims are absolved of their responsibilities, right? They need to be rescued for they are helpless and have no means to means to help themselves. Why claim responsibility? Why ask people to think for themselves or to try any other way? Oh yes, blame it on capitalism. Capitalism is evil and vile. I can't stand what some people do with the resources at their command so I say we let government bureaucrats saves us. Isn't that the typical solution to the evils of capitalism? Some sort of government monopoly? Face it. It is hardly capitalism that has failed you but your fellow man, and that fellow man will fail you in socialism as well if that is what you prefer. Why must we constantly strive to deny one another's freedom. A more enlightened society cannot come through the use of force. How can you possibly persuade people to change their ways when you tell them they are victims? Well you aren't victims! YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE. You, you, and you and me. We make society what it is. Get over it. ...

i'm pretty sure in recent months capitalism and the fucking free market have failed. human beings do not do well with unfettered freedom. we need government oversight. and the 'socialism' is nice in theory but yes, that didn't work either. i don't ask anyone to take responsibility for me. but i think maybe we should all take a little more responsibility for each other.

What we have is NOT unfettered freedom. When you are programmed to behave in a certain manner and value certain things from the time you first become aware of pop culture, you have been chained. Your mind is not yours anymore. Freedom? Freedom is real. And unfettered freedom INSISTS upon personal responsibility. Within you, within me, within us all is the "government oversight" that is needed. The Tao, the Flow, The Great Spirit, God, Allah, Yahweh..The Right Way whatever you want to call it. It's there. It's real and it knows the way to a better way. But who the fuck listens anymore? Certainly not me. Oh I stumble along like a drunken fool at the carnival. Hiding my head from what I know to be true. Knowing what I can't bring myself to believe..really believe. If you don't act upon it...you don't REALLY believe. Freedom is there. REAL freedom lies within. But I'm too busy taking in my daily dose of bullshit to risk a peek inside. Contrast is a motherfucker and oooh what I'll see out here if I look in there again!
