As she lays down on the bed she wonders if it will be as she always imagined. Each year that had passed she acknowledged her "investment" only to realize it would soon disappear. Blood, tears, and scars emerge in what she dreamed to be her ultimate value. This is my nightmare.

Purity is a torture...referred to so because it is something so untouched and untouchable, the urge to blacken it, christen it, and muddle it up with oily so-called-sin becomes unbearable as the night grows older and the day is born. Like a Christmas package awaiting the dream filled eyes of a child. It sits there, luring him closer. All wrapped up beautifully, crisp, shiny and new. Picturesque in a child's eyes. Almost too beautiful and wonderous, a few split seconds pass through their minds and say not to touch it and ruin its purity. But the uncertainty of what hides inside is too much to bear. The desire to open it overrules. Down to the bottom line. The present must be opened. The gift must be taken. Purity must be tarnished. Its all a bitter agonizing game. A virgin becomes the highest prize, and to be the one to christen them is amongst the highest honors...

"You can't pretend to be a nice girl anymore," he said, climbing from the bed. I guess I showed him a thing or two.

Yes purity is indeed a state of mind, but it's also an element of humanity that is ingrained in the minds of people at an early age in some cultures. And in many cases it can fuel a lot of sadness, and self deprivation. It's something that we carry around in our heads and seem to think disappears when we engage in a certain activity. I've come to realize that even though I haven't done certain things in my life yet, I'm not as pure as most would think I am and yet I do not feel tainted or tarnished. I think for most people, purity never completely leaves their mind, no matter what they do. It's an intangible quality that just diminishes over time, but the remnants are still there. Maybe it's not so much something in our minds, but something that resides within our hearts. Society's definition of 'purity' has given me many internal conflicts and though according to society I'm still "pure", I'll always be pure in my own mind no matter what I do. Purity is a torture only when confined within the realms of the crowd's opinion.

i tried to strive for purity but i guess i'm not the sort i think i finally realized that i'd be reaching for eternity and probably always falling short for all those who watch me stumble without offering their hand i'm glad i've finally seen the truth you need a lesson to be humbled before you'd even understand.

i disagree with the equating of purity to innocence being pure is not being unspoiled it is being absolute in some way. and, as far as presents, contrary to what most might guess, i take utmost care in their opening, delicately unfastening each piece of tape, preserving the bow, unfolding the paper so pristinely it could become origami_cranes, to suckle every possible moment of that sweetest cusp between recieving and having.
