It never ceases to make me feel slightly guilty for not buying the whole store. Also,if that WASn't all, wouldn't I be buying more? Although, in that case, i guess it still wouldn't be obvious that my "more" wasn't my "all". (eek, involuntary mariah carey reference. profound apologies.)
annnnd I can just see it!
"Is that everything?"
"Yes...oh wait, no. I forgot to grab the bananas. Just a second."
(comes back with bananas)
"Ok. Here."
(cashier adds bananas to total)
"Is that everything?"
"Yep." (gets ready to pay) "Hm...well, actually...now that you mention it, maybe i should get italian dressing. Which do YOU think is better, italian or ranch? ...You think ranch is just fine, huh?...Well, no, I've decided I'd prefer italian. Be right back."
(comes back with new and tasty-looking dressing, gets ready to pay)
(cashier sighs, looks exasperated)
"Is that everything now?"
"Yes." (pulls out wallet and raises eyebrows in surprise) "Oh...I guess that isn't everything. I seem to have forgotten my credit card. Mind if I go to the bank?"
etc. etc.
seems to me that the cashiers are freely providing customers with more opportunities to piss them off.
