Ok. let me rant a little bit. i hate it when people say its brilliant. because its not brilliant. its thrown together very messily, maybe to confuse on purpose, maybe just because its a messy movie. the acting is NOT good. the fact that it is a tv pilot reworked to be a movie is NOT interesting. its an EXPLANATION why its so bad. There are some things that have no function in the movie. they do nothing. they mean nothing. some things are completely there for no reason. and i don't think thats a good thing. i mean it would be one thing if everyone loved it because its a stupid movie and everyone likes making fun of it. but everyone LOVES IT because they think its brilliant. and for those who think they understand it, they look at people who dont understand it and called them feeble-minded as if they are retarded for not understanding. But i won't buy into their lies. there's nothing to understand. i wouldn't even care about this movie if it wasn't so popular. i'd just laugh and say what a bomb. but no. oscar nominated. that is sad. sad sad sad. bad movies dont deserve such high credit. I mean even if someone sat down and explained whatever interpretation theyve come up with to me, i still probably would disagree and say, "No. there's no reason for this and this and this. its ok if you don't understand. i won't make fun of you" because its a cop-out to make something a dream 2/3rds of the way through the movie. and go "Oh look how obscure and unique my style is...oooooh" maybe if it was a tvshow they would have had more time to reveal answers and make some kind of cheesy connection between it all. but david lynch isn't a genius. he's a hack with an audience.

i don't remember much about the plot, but i liked the movie alot and the state of mind it put me in when it first came in the video stores. david lynch isn't a genius, he's david lynch though. he does things with dialogue that stand alone, there's nothing like his atmospheres and he knows how to set a specific tone. sure, the plots are confusing and i'm 99% sure that's intentional; i think he once warned his audience NOT to ask him to interpret his films. why? probably because he doesn't know what the fuck is going on either or he doesn't want to let you in on that little secret. i think one of his motivations is playing with our heads, so be it. it's that feeling you get when you enter his weird worlds. and that's enough for me. narratives are nice and all, but only one part of the whole.

i liked it. why does everything need to have a meaning? after all, most of it is a dream. aren't dream kinda senseless and based on several recurrent points (like the object/concept 'mulholland drive'), messy and pretty fucked up? :) maybe it is not a 'brilliant' movie but deserves some credit. i guess it is one of those movies that has no 'gray' fans: all 'black' or 'white', loveit or hateit (like moulin rouge's situation). taste matters. but i'm still shocked that i don't see you hating cliched-lifestyle movies like a beautiful mind, no matter how real that issue is.. (well, maybe i haven't check out that blathe). cheers.

it isnt supposed to make sense i didnt waste time feeling confused i wasted time feeling angry at all the kids i knew who called it genius. i like movies that have no meaning...when they are done well. i like movies that aren't done well... when they aren't taken seriously, and we're laughing at the poor choices the filmmaker made. for the longest time i felt like the only person who didnt like this movie. i really liked what someone said up there, "A lame excuse to call art." very nicely put. thats my sentiments. im not usually so opinionated with dumb stuff like this...but when it comes to people like... making fun of me for like some things, and then they call mullholand drive genius.. it makes me feel bad. and angry. i never saw a beautiful mind, but the last person i argued with about mulholland drive also brought that up. "you have to admit, it was better than lord of the rings and a beautiful mind." and im like No... lord of the rings was a really good looking movie based on good books, and it was true, and had quality acting and special affects. lord of the rings was like a song. mullholland drive was like an assault on the ears.

david lynch is the quintesential mad hatter..seeting in his celluloid collage..he loves the fluidity, the chimera, the catch the merry little mephistophlolean mind congugals if you can kind of mercurial mayhem..you'll go mad trying to unwind this mans psyche..mad mad mad i tell you..but he was right about robert blake though wasn't he? heh heh

the word is spelled - seething..seething in his celluloid collage..mephistopholean mind conjugals..and the mayhem the chimera causes coming at you from the corner of your eye..first i was peripheral, now i here a pike wedged right into the soft tissue..shock! lynch is master of the mind-conjugal, at least cinematically ah in the parameters of the "ouvre" he wants us all to think he originated..pop the lid on any bodies sub-conscious and you'll see some blood curdling phantsmagoria..ooops i said blood curdling again, now i await the geysers of well intentioned if not absurdist ire of 10-4, oops i mean 4-H, darn it! Great goobly goo and proposed performative utterances!! e squared? no wait 7 something..question marks..riddles..umm..yeah..duck!! here comes another authoritative performative..that one almost seared my already chaffing self esteem..so david lynch what i just did?..that's him 10 thousand times worse with the heft of creative chaos behind it... *slowly begins to hum london bridge is falling down..gradually speeding up and going way sharp..tapping tapping madly on the faux wood of his computer station* ...
