like all other isms, a prejudice toward persons with mental illnesses. Sanist attitudes include the assumption that persons w/ mi are "scary", and that they are incompetent to make their owns decisions. Sanist attitudes and myths prevail, despite valid social scientific research that speaks to the contrary of these attitudes. The public is not the only guilty body, judges, lawyers, and psychiatrists often hold sanist views. |
