Andy has cleared it up for me. the friggen elitist. Nerds will eventually make a contribution to society. They're the next Bill Gates', they're smart and comp literate and usually good with numbers. They're the kinda kids you get to do you homework for you, or at least help you with it, depending on how much you respect them and yourself. Which you should, because nerds will rule the world someday. Dorks, on the other hand, will never contribute to society. Think: Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons. They're the obsessive Trekkies and the guys who'll still be playing D&D in their mother's basements when they're 30. They attend the cons in packs and are always in costume. Not that there's anything wrong with this, but that's a dork. Geeks are something in between. They may have obsessive qualities as far as sci-fi fantasy things go, but they're not gonna let it make them unsocial and reclusive. They may or may not contribute to society in the end, but if they do, it won't be with their comp skills, which are average to low, mostly. These are words from Andy's mouth, but he always has an interesting viewpoint. Do you agree?

I agree that there is definately a difference, but I'd argue with the definitions above; Nerds Nerds are boffins, plain and simple, they are usually less social, and sometimes reclusive, though they will usually try to make friends with you, possibly in an attempt to find the perfect nerd buddy. Nerds are very booksmart, but may lack in common sense. Nerds may or may not be good with computers; it is not a requirement. Think 'martin' from the simpsons. Geeks Geeks are a subset of Nerds, possesing most of the Nerdy qualities, but are always good with computers. Geeks are worthy of a name to themselves (instead of, say, computer-nerds) because they differ from Nerds in several areas; Geeks are -generally- better in social situations than Nerds. Geeks are willing to teach, and to learn. Geeks have a unique and inexplicable sense of humour, funny only to fellow Geeks. Geeks tend to get very excited about computery things. Think '3 gunmen' from the X-Files Dorks Dorks posses all the Nerd-like qualities, but are not intelligent. Some Dorks asprire to nerdhood, or even imagine they have obtained it. Think 'ralph' from the Simpsons

Listen lad, I built this space station up from nothing. When I started here all there was was an empty space. All the other Captains said I was daft to build a station in empty space, but I built it all the same, just to show them. That sank into a black hole. So I built a second one. That sank into a black hole. So I built a third one, that burned down, fell over, then sank into a black hole. So I built a fourth one. That disappeared, caught fire, went back in time 900 years, then sank into a black hole. But the fifth one stayed up! And that's what you're gonna get, lad. The strongest Babylon in these here sectors.

To summarize: Dork Nerd Geek. In terms of what you'd choose if you had to be one. I.E. a Nerd is a Dork with added smarts, and a Geek is a Nerd with (slightly) improved social skills. And typically more specifically computer_smart.

i was thinking dorks are kind of like penguins - can be smart but are incredibly wacky, running around yelling d0rk! d0rk! d0rk! and in general just funny and random in a somewhat self-deprecating way, tripping over their shoelaces and then retreating into a corner, and flipping around mentally, doing headstands on integrals kind of like a nerd/geek which sort of has social skills {still trips over words though}, but with social skills on acid
