well, well mr. michael...how do extrapolate a meterological disaster of this proportion to the will of God? Should there be cataclysmic mudslides for all the adulterers that "infest" our nations gleaming citadels of commerce? Should fish fall from the sky for all of the tax cheats? Should there be a tsunami or two for all of the christian and non-christian men who consume pornography? Hey and for those of us with bad tempers why don't god just send a few thousand golf ball sized hailstones to pelt our heads with and subdue us into a more subdued state of mind?
When will Christians start calling these guys on the carpet and remind them that we're under the NEW covenant now. Most of the old testament was written bey men and again i gotta say, some pretty unenlightened and misogynistic men at that who owned slaves and ruled over thier tribes with a ruthless imperative namely your life your heart must be philosphically/theologically compatible with my own or else you get to play pinyata with the rest of the tirbes elders. You'll BE the pinyata(sp).
As christian and laymen we have GOT to be more sophisticated than that. Or just forget about being sophisticated..how about just pure doctrinal and theological fealty to the charcter of christ? i mean let's start subjecting these hyperbolic hoaxes to an exacting scrutiny.
The days of men/women fashoining thier god into an instrument of human intolerance. I mean just because a few people toss in sleepless torment over the babylonian excess of secular humanity doesn't mean that God would exert His awesome might to kill and destroy people randomly because of the sexual appetites of a few.
When will modern christianity abandon these arguments of a God that demands an absolutist conformity with the Mosaic tenents of conduct or face His wrath?

Personally, i always figured that the reason that the old testament people were always so dead-set against any sex that was not meant to breed children was because they were a nomadic bunch bent on conquest and as such needed to maintain effective and efficient breeding practices for the sake of having sufficient numbers to acquire or overtake the lands they moved into
anything that ran counter to such a program would be downright criminal if you apply thtat line of logic to it.
Of course the psychotic preacher contingent seems bound and determined, whenever they run their mouths like this, to ignore Acts 10:27-28

I spoke to someone very dear to me who happens to be a christian--this person is extremly selfless and compassionate--
I was really shocked at this persons brimstone and fire response. I couldn't imagine this person parroting the party line of the fascist religiosity--how can christians NOT find those systems of coercion and control repugnant?

You got gay people who don't even know that it's wrong, you got young girls and women down there getting nude in front of strangers, all this mess about alternative cultural encounters is just another white wash by the devil. The Lord must purge the land. We're in the last days. Instead a these folks complaining about President Bush and the Police and the fact that most of our National Guard is deployed in a foreign land they oughta be calling out ta Jesus."

Does it occur to anyon (meaning crhistians) that a lot of the Christian neo-conservative narratives seem desperately suffused with belligerance..I mean how can we EVER motivate people to consider our Fatih if we're assuming an antagonistic posture? The authoritarian impulse in much of Christianity supplants any kind of ggod will Christianeiy may have engendered in that persons past.
I mean we think when we condemn poeple and publicly expose them to ridicule or contempt, when we make a carcature of thier lives and erect effifies that are burned by the backlash of dufitul flocks
whose righteous indignation has been shrewdly churned "wickedness burns like fire"--so that the so called sodomite, and so called fornicators and other paricipants in unsanctioned sex acts are dehumanized.
If we're going to speak with the authority of Christ, shouldn't it be in the same manner that Christ spoke? The New Testament is full of the parables of Christ. Remember when one of the Saduccees who thought to ensnare Jesus in some dialectic trap, asked "Rabbi, what is the greatest of all the commandments?" Jesus answered by saying
"To love the lord thy God with all your heart, soul mind and strength."
How can beings who profess to be so full of love speak out so callously against their brethren who are in the throes of grief, sorrow. People who have lost everything. Some have even watched as thier loved ones were torn from their grasp by the terrible force of the current.
If we say we speak in the name of God then let's really try to inhabit that.
Christians, consult your consciences, consult the scriptures, let us really aspire to BE like Christ and minister the Gospel for the betterment of humanity.
Can we sit above the clouds, atop the sacred mountain and cast down thunderbolts upon the so called heathen?
Can we do that and honestly call ourselves Christians?
