Just found out that the wheat I've been eating here in_the U.S. for most of my life is not the same wheat my_parents grew up eating. It's been "enhanced" with several things which are horrible for human consumption. The yield, of course, is ten times greater than real wheat, so there's no_way the farmers could go_back to growing the original grain. Unless, however, enough people found out and stopped eating food with wheat in it. But what are_the chances of that? Slim_to_none, I'd say. These "enhancements" took place long before there was any government regulation on genetically altering crops, so_there are no laws against it, and no laws about proper package labeling involving frankenwheat. One of the alterations was the addition of a chemical that triggers our feelings of hunger, which make us want to eat more food and eat_it more often. Thanks, U.S. scientists from the 1950s! If you're still around, I hope you realize the part you played in making the U.S. obese. It's not all on your shoulders, but a big chunk of it_is.

the fact that there continue to be no laws against genetically engineered food in the united states has nothing to do with scientists from the 50s. it has everything to do with corrupt politics and the fact that government regulations have nothing to do with public safety in this country though. because the federal government is basically owned and operated by big business lobbyists like monsanto, the fda and congress still refuse to acknowledge the public safety hazard of these foods that are scientifically linked to obesity and increased food allergies. some states are taking this things into their own hands. washington state has an initiative on the ballot this year for voters to demand that gmo's be labeled on all food sold in the state of washington. that's about as good as any of us can hope for i think. asking the federal government to do the right thing for majority of americans is like asking pre-teens and teenagers to stop bullying each other. if anything, drawing attention to the problem only seems to make the problem worse.

oh yeah, the other bad part about gmo's beyond the health impact is that in the european union and other parts of the world where common sense seems to be more dominant in politics, they are refusing to buy imports of genetically modified food from the united states because they don't want them infecting their food sources or their citizens. but whatever's best for the free market is best of all americans. long live senseless greed
