As a child of an early divorce, it always baffles me when youth are shocked or even traumatized by their parents' divorces or separations. I can't understand why they would care so much to have an enormous emotional reaction. What difference does it make if a marriage is split up? How is it significant? That's the beauty of desensitization. I suppose my situation was unique: the hero and villain were rather conveniently clear-cut. And at the age of seven, I was preoccupied with other things. Besides, nobody got hurt who didn't have it coming. I really can't imagine what it would be like to have both parents present, let alone loving each other, let alone me loving them, and them at war. I really can't. So I can't sympathise nor empathise really, but I can say that I hope it fares better for you.
