it is true, i am difficult. but if i am engaging in argument, it is because i feel the subject, and the person with whom i am communicating are important to me. i usually do not bother with ideas or people that i judge to have no merit. even if i disagree with someone, i put a lot of energy into trying to understand their point of view. i feel that i learn more that way, an hopefully they do too. i see engagement as a sign of respect.

doar: empathy, as you say, has a lot to do with it. relativism is a principle that i try hard to bot apply and accept. it does not include, however, not voicing contrary opinions. i must also respect myself. after all, i have to live in my own skin.
regarding argument with you doar, i have not had the honor, but if i ever do, i hope to learn a lot. you are one of the reasons that i have stayed with blather.
roger: i don't tend to agree with you, it's true, but your self possession and obvious passion are always engaging.

i don't think i've ever really argued (successfully) with anyone here. although there was that one time with misstree but that turned into just banter and wordplay.
dafremen and stork daddy are higher on the mental tree then i (no i'm not ass kissing....oh christ i just gave myself a bad mental image....must clean brain...must clean brain). as such they are better at debate than i and are two more i would hate to agrue with.
i'm just an alcoholic, living day to day.
