Perhaps we aren't ever exactly what we believe ourselves to be, but what others believe us to be is equally false (probably moreso). Actions and words project inaccurate impressions of the inner truth; I witness this daily.
What we believe about ourselves, however, is a powerful tool in the shaping of what be begin to become. If we remain loyal to a vision of ourselves, across time we become closer and closer to actualizing it.
These arguments are ancient, and no closer to resolution today than they were then....

Without pure, unadulterated, unshakable faith in a code or precept, yes. Unanswered enmasse, perhaps, but individuals have achieved it. I strive to be one such individual, but as I have said elsewhere, I could choose anything. Makes it a little tough, but I'm getting there, bit by bit.

when has there ever been any consensus as to the character or form of jesus?! every sect, every adherent, has a different vision of that guy. some visions are quite similar, while others are very, very different. all definition is shrouded in mystery, obnoxiously i guess..
