kookaburra Today starts the year of the sun,
What’s gone is gone and
What’s done is done.
Time to turn over a whole new leaf,
Leave behind the grief.

Tell my old life to leave me be,
There’s so much more that I need to see.
Why think of the older things?
Forget the death,
And the tarnished rings.

This is the year when magic begins,
A girl who cries oceans,
A cat who grins.
This year will be seen
Through a child’s eyes,
Life could be so simple,
But nobody tries.

This is the year when we understand truth
Is whatever we make it-
Is it a lost tooth?
Or the sad tattered washcloth wrung out in the tub?
Is it the deadliest tumor?
The cutest bear cub?

Who said January must start the year of the sun?
It could last just one day
or a million
and one.
This is the year when we are once again born,
To our long again world before it was torn.

Life can be beautiful,
Life can be strange.
Must it be understood?
Must it all have a name?
Must we figure out dew and that bright wildflower,
Are not magic at all,
And that girl in the tower,
Never was and never ever could be?
Life without dreams is no life for me.
