blather
wilted_butterfly
pushpins A wilted butterfly drags her petals
Along the sidewalk
Where a deceptive daisy
Delves her roots.
Her wings file themselves down,
Touching the edges of her painted shadow
Which fades
As the sun yawns and rests.

Across town or up in the sky
A toneless girl
Looks into her reflected eyes
On the glass,
snorts a line of cloud
And floats with all the pretty butterflies
Who know where they are
smoldering in the sun.

burned and raw she falls into
the ocean
only to drown as Ophelia
too heavy to attempt to float,
too lost to know to breathe.

pipers wilted but perhaps not
for long, wings
damaged wings bruised but
not broken
colour faded but not
washed out
still flitting
through the thorns still
alive
