when i was seven we moved from a perfectly normal nice-as-it-gets-in-a-city city to a dark streetlightless hell! i spent one night in my dark little room shaking and trying to identify the loud animals running around outside my window. from then on i have slept with the lights on. one time when i was twelve my mom turned the lights off and i was so terrified i nearly died. well i thought i died. i clearly remember being soaked in sweat. when people ask me why i moved to chicago i tell them "it has street lights..." i'm not kidding.

i just can't. i need the light on. i always had a lamp at night, and my parents never made an issue out of it. turns out, when my dad is not there, my mom will not sleep without a light either... i wonder if this is why they never had a 'lights out' rule, or why i need the lights on? I don't know, i just can't sleep in the dark though, unless i'm not alone. then i really don't mind.

It's because Mike talks in his sleep. It wouldn't be so bad if I could understand what he says.

when i was ...we'll say six, my uncle tricked me into watching this movie. I still can't remember what it's called, but the dad in it kills all of their servants on this farm and he keeps them in the basement/attic (one of the two) and the little girl sees them through the vents. I had to sleep in my grandparent's house that night and there is one of those vents right over the bed. Every once in a while I think about it and it gives me the skeevies. I just can't stand the thought of me not being able to see something. I sleep with christmas lights on.

light, dark, dawn, dusk I hardly sleep through any of them, but can sleep a little whenever exhaustion outweighs anxiety when_sleep_comes_down

because when i lay down to sleep, i stare for a very long time before my eyes will actually shut, and being able to glance over each of my trinkets in turn is soothing and because sometimes in the night i need to open my eyes and remember that the world is still there

when i open my eyes in the dark, i see nothing ...not very reassuring. i cannot tell if i've woken up or if i'm still staring at the back of my eyelids

i was subjected to horror movies too early on in my life. i still am weary of my sisters dolls, and make sure to treat them with extra care.
