blather
whipoorwill
daf R.Dafremen

Out past the lake
Running with the sun
Flying by like the years
since we were young

At the meadow's edge
Whip-oor-will he'd sing
To a lover on the other
side of the stream

You loved me then
Do you love me now
Now that your days ain't gotten no better
love?

This foolish heart
Some way some how
Would shelter you from the wounded weather
now.

Fall into my love
Til the laughter comes
into your heart like the tears keep coming now
Like your tears keep coming now.

Making love in June
Talkin til the sun went down
Hot n heavy like a sacred lover's vow

And in the twilit dream
Opened my arms and found you in between
Warmer than the days of summer
had ever seen

You loved me then
Do you love me now?
Now that your days ain't gotten no better
love?

This foolish heart
Some way some how
Would shelter you from the wounded weather
now

Fall into my love
Til the laughter comes
into your heart like the tears keep coming now
Like your tears keep coming now.

Things aren't the same
But they haven't changed so much
That our lovin couldn't keep us sane
Cuz a gentle word
Is like a little bird
Calling out
To his lover in the pouring rain

Your eyes are far away
But though you're seein only shades of gray
My heart is waitin like it was
On those summer days

And all through the night
The whip-oor-will would cry
Sending out some comfort
To another on the other side
I'm always waiting on the other side

fishawk I always loved the sound of the whipoorwill in the trees beside the river. Late evening into the night. I would hum and mimick them as I drifted into sleep. Comforted knowing that the dogs were inside and that the racoons, skunks, and porcupines were rustling about outside. Any noise in the night was just_some_critter out by the river. In_town, it could be so many other_things... 150117
