from an old Wendy's Hamburgers ad-campaign (early 80's) in which they asserted that their burgers had more meat than any of their competitors (i.e. Burger King or McDonald's et al) The mascot of these commercials was a small, elderly woman named Clara Peller who was frequently seen in the adverts going to some unnamed burger chain and examining her order which consisted of a gigantic bun housing a patty roughly the size of a quarter prompting her to ask the question in a harried and irritated voice "where's_the_beef !?" frighteningly enough, even though the ad campaign died out long before a large portion of blatherskites were either born or out of diapers, the tagline, like many varieties of toxic waste, still maintains a bizarre half-life in popular consciousness
