confused I live in the United States.

I've been writing and arranging songs for over ten years.

I earn money from this.

Is that wrong?

How much money should I be able to earn from this venture?

Is there a limit?

If there is, who decides what that limit is?

Am I allowed to become wealthy?

Being wealthy in the U.S. seems to be a bad thing, based on the way the government and the media constantly bash it.

Should I aspire to be poor?

The poor are uplifted by the government and the media.

Should I stop composing and arranging music?

Or, should I donate all of my talent to the world for free?

Is it wrong to aspire to greatness?

Doar Nah. Keep on delving and scoring. If your talent is concentrated and popular, then fuck it dude, keep on. Just don't be a britney or more relevant, a virus.

Tourist The public at large decides these things. Your heart will know if you are being greedy or not. Be compassionate, be fair, be helpful. Money isn`t a free ticket to happiness, but it may take the stress of surviving down a notch, as long as you remember you`re just passing through, just like the rest of us. 120719

unhinged fyi i am poor and i am not uplifted by the government. according to the government, i don't deserve their help cause i bust my ass at a minimum wage job, a minimum wage that barely allows me to survive but that they allow the company i work for to pay me.

everyone deserves to pay their fair share back into society. hoarding and greed are only making this country worse, not better. giving corporations tax breaks hasn't created jobs, just profits. profits used to give ceos that don't deserve them exorbitant bonuses.

you deserve to be compensated for giving society beauty even more than said ceos that do nothing to contribute to this society. (profit margins have nothing to do with the starving huddled masses out of work)

unhinged is it greatness you aspire to or success?

are greatness and success the same thing?

artists deserve to be just as wealthy as athletes. (but we aren't) art is one of the few rare things that distinguishes humans from monkeys. art allows us to see joy in the struggle.

ive heard often from different sources lately that i deserve greatness in the form of a partner, equal and loving.

what does that really mean 'you deserve someone great'?

epitome of incomprehensibility $54,398.12 per year on average, adjusted for inflation as time progresses, with a 5-15% increase after five years - lower if you write too many high Gs for mezzo sopranos and higher if you like saxophones better than trumpets.

But really? As a (sort of) composer, I think music is something worth making. I'd say keep at it, take time to experiment, and maybe also take time for volunteer work.

srealisma You don't have to feel guilty for being lucky and talented... I think there are lots of creative people for which there is no mechanism of compensation and then just a lot of people who can't or won't get it together to BE the artist, set it all up. But there is a luck factor. You gotta not exploit it, or your talent. It's for the most part it's own reward, also the benefit of humankind. You can't complain if money falls in too when cookie crumbles. 120721

srealisma My "it" switched from luck to art in the middle there. By luck I mean not everybody who's talented gets the adequate reward. I don't really know what the deciding factor or factors would be but my bet is it's_complicated. 120721
