(The Mirror) A plea to A need to hold you as an answer To calm the haunting questions Denial beguiles Tints the light of understanding A smokey self deception What a masterpiece of twisted reason Rejecting truths our minds deny for fantasies we all believe in Being crushed again Under the weight of my reflection There's no air down here where the need to be is winning out Tried to clear my head Saw the face of my reflection there instead It grinned at me and said "Who's the sinner now?" The mirror goes deeper Grows to show the seeker The heart of its illusion Some falter, move onward Shadows tempt unwary ones to entertain confusion With a single-minded sense of drama What began conviction Becomes the source of all the problems Getting crushed again By the weight of a reflection which is not there When you can't breathe it seems too real to bear Escaping from the self Slipping away from one's reflection is a mess And those that know it's so are there to tell The future is unclear The past so far and gone away (And taking all our presents) No control A lost soul swallowing a dragon's tail Swallowed by the dragon Spiralling inward ever downward Human ego feeding on the illusory that surrounds it Almost crushed again Beneath the weight of my reflection It's not fair to have to release a thing that isn't there Outside reality In the domain of my reflection's fantasy There's a me that seems to be, but isn't there.
