i'm sorry, are you trying to tell me that there's such a thing as a "green tea frappuccino"? what a random concept obviously designed by overpaid marketting executives.

but they recycle and do good things. does the company you've made do better? has your whole life summed up to having greater or even equal to the cumulative positive net effect that Starbuck's has had on the world? do you buy things? were they made by very fair, eco-friendly, progressive companies? are you wearing the clothing you've made by your own hands?

starbucks has started to take some of the criticism that mcDonalds has traditionally taken in the past; it is resented as a ubiqitous sign of the globalisation that seemingly pervades all aspects of modern life; we resent starbucks (et al) because we resent modernity. tinyurl.com/yhdjka

( i do not resent modernity, though i do resent starbucks. it is the fact that it's Disneyland veneer of faux-retro-hipster design satisfies, that disturbs me. that and $8 drinks. your comparison with that burger chain is apt. i have long been chiding my old friend for his loyalty to that brand by never referring to it as anything but macdonalds. he remains unabashed, citing their coffee's quality. my reference above to cafe esperanto comes from a new york times op-ed page piece by (i think) maureen dowd in which she made light of the silly (and artificial) lingo which the workers use and insist that customers adopt. it is amazing that they will not accept the use of english terms such as small, medium, large or extra-large, requiring the customer to repeat the market-speak while holding up the empty vessel. this way anyone within earshot is treated to a free dose of cooler-than-thou for knowing the correct slang, reinforcing the brand-loyalty. before i stopped patronizing them, i used to belligerently insist that they serve me using english (no, i am not a an anglo-snob) for my own enjoyment. try it some time, it's fun.)

apologies to Dr Seuss --------------------- I am Sam Sam I am That Sam-I-am! That Sam-I-am! I do not like that Sam-I-am! Do you like green tea in cans? I do not like them, Sam-I-am. I do not like green tea in cans. Would you like them here or there? I would not like them here or there. I would not like them anywhere. I do not like green tea in cans. I do not like them, Sam-I-am. Would you like them in a house? Would you like them with a mouse? I do not like them in a house. I do not like them with a mouse. I do not like them here or there. I do not like them anywhere. I do not like green tea in cans. I do not like them, Sam-I-am. Would you drink them in a box? Would you drink them with a fox? Not in a box. Not with a fox. Not in a house. Not with a mouse. I would not drink them here or there. I would not drink them anywhere. I would not drink green tea in cans. I do not like them, Sam-I-am. Would you? Could you? In a car? Drink them! Drink them! Here they are. I would not, could not, in a car. You may like them. You will see. You may like them in a tree! I would not, could not in a tree. Not in a car! You let me be. I do not like them in a box. I do not like them with a fox. I do not like them in a house. I do not like them with a mouse. I do not like them here or there. I do not like them anywhere. I do not like green tea in cans. I do not like them, Sam-I-am. A train! A train! A train! A train! Could you, would you, on a train? Not on a train! Not in a tree! Not in a car! Sam! Let me be! I would not, could not, in a box. I could not, would not, with a fox. I will not drink them with a mouse. I will not drink them in a house. I will not drink them here or there. I will not drink them anywhere. I do not drink green tea in cans. I do not like them, Sam-I-am. Say! In the dark? Here in the dark! Would you, could you, in the dark? I would not, could not, in the dark. Would you, could you, in the rain? I would not, could not, in the rain. Not in the dark. Not on a train. Not in a car. Not in a tree. I do not like them, Sam, you see. Not in a house. Not in a box. Not with a mouse. Not with a fox. I will not drink them here or there. I do not like them anywhere! You do not like green tea in cans? I do not like them, Sam-I-am. Could you, would you, with a goat? I would not, could not, with a goat! Would you, could you, on a boat? I could not, would not, on a boat. I will not, will not, with a goat. I will not drink them in the rain. I will not drink them on a train. Not in the dark! Not in a tree! Not in a car! You let me be! I do not like them in a box. I do not like them with a fox. I will not drink them in a house. I do not like them with a mouse. I do not like them here or there. I do not like them ANYWHERE! I do not like green tea in cans! I do not like them, Sam-I-am. You do not like them. So you say. Try them! Try them! And you may. Try them and you may, I say. Sam! If you will let me be, I will try them. You will see. (at which point in our story, the heretofore tormented hero cautiously takes a sip of the "green tea in cans") Say! I like green tea in cans! I do! I like them, Sam-I-am! And I would drink them in a boat. And I would drink them with a goat... And I will drink them in the rain. And in the dark. And on a train. And in a car. And in a tree. They are so good, so good, you see! So I will drink them in a box. And I will drink them with a fox. And I will drink them in a house. And I will drink them with a mouse. And I will drink them here and there. Say! I will drink them ANYWHERE! I do so like Green tea in cans! Thank you! Thank you, Sam-I-am! ---------------------- heh.
