I don't think most of us realize what it is we do when we take advantage the innocence of a child to amuse ourselves. In most cases, none of us see it as anything more than benign fun. But we've all gotten older and most of us remember our feelings of resentment..not toward the people that we love who compromised our dignity without our knowledge...but at ourselves for being so naive. It is at that point that many of us reject our "naivety." It is at that point that we resent ourselves for being so "stupid", when in fact we were so wise in our trust, so perfect in our innocence. It is at that point that we make a pact with ourselves to be more suspicious..more...worldy. More jaded and "adult." But it's all a game now. And they're just little children who don't know any better...so what's the harm? |
