professor uno true lesson, years ago:

30 people sit in a classroom. the teacher has a game: you can receive either a one dollar or ten dollar credit by marking on a piece of paper which you would prefer. however, if everyone in the class decides to take the one dollar credit, an additional fifty dollar credit will be given to each and every person. students take out a piece of paper and mark your preference.

the first run: 27 one dollar/3 ten dollar

oh, so sorry. you all were this close. do you want to try it again?

the second run: 20 one dollar/10 ten dollar

hmm, that's interesting. it seems we're losing faith in each other. can you trust your neighbor for the big bucks?

the third run: 5 one dollar/25 ten dollar

at this point, the teacher elaborated on the specifics of greed, trust and the psychology of competition. and of course, real money was not used which may or may not skew the actual results.

professor uno another thing: the teacher didn't use the same tone as i did, i.e. "hmm, can you trust your neighbor for the big bucks?"

he was either neutral or motivational, like: "c'mon everyone, we can do this." still, piss poor results.
