daf Ok this is forray number 2 into Ubuntu, number 5 into Linux.

I can't stand spending time figuring out how to make the wheel do what it was invented to do. It annoys me. I understand the difficulties. I respect the participants in the project and salute the many loong hours they've dedicated to providing people with a free operating system. I still can't stand fucking around with the operating system unless it's part of what I'm doing atm.

THat said. This has been fun. I like Ubuntu. But it's still a pain in the ass to set up .. or would be for your average computer USER.

Here's one oh gurus of Linux:

I want to lower desktop memory usage. Gnome is a mem nommer and so are its desktop pals "metacity, gnome-terminal, nautilus" etc.

But I have no idea how to change my desktop manager from gdm to xdm. where? I don't f---ing know. You tell me. It ain't /etc/inittab..that's for sure.

And frankly..I'm to old to even want to know what I'm doing when I set xdm to runlevel 5 in order to make it run as my default window manager at startup. If I can even find the config file that I'm suppose to modify to change it to xdm..and runlevel 5 and what the f*&^%$ck?! Seriously?

Anyhow. I'm really loving Ubuntu 10.10 the Maverick MEerkat. (Love that name. Luv THe Name..I'm tellin you what.). But there's Diner Dash and Jigzone and Facebook and shit to be considered too unfortunately. Help. Thanks.
