In Ersilia to establish the relationships that sustain the city's life, the inhabitants stretch strings from the corners of the houses... When the strings become so numerous that you can no longer pass among them, the inhabitants leave... looking back they see the labyrinth of taut strings and poles that rise from the plain. That is the city of Ersilia still and they are nothing. They rebuild Ersilia elsewhere. The weave a similair pattern of strings which they would like to be more complex and at the same time more regular... ...spider webs of intricate relationships seeking form... ~Italio Calvino (Invisible Cities) People are tied together... invisible webs of emotion superimposed upon the simple lives we lead. I did my project on this storie... the relationships of people... the thick rope that is old and frayed coming apart in places. the rope that has been broken and tied together the thin rope that holds fast... It's a connection... like when they teach you bonding in Chemisty... there the weak bond that comes apart at the first sign of trouble the medium bond that holds under most pressures and the bond that never breaks... except there are so many more then three... infinite levels of complex patterns of weavings. The thin red and blue rope that is snapped and blowing in the wind... the Thick navy and yellow one thay is stretched tight and frayed but still holds with tiny threads... the black and orange rope that is frayed and in places broken, sometimes thick sometimes thinner then spider's silk... the thick wine and silver rope that holds true, strong... They tie you to the world... they weave your tapestry... your thread is always there, but without wrapping it among other threads it falls away and loses it's meaning... the string between you and me...
