i guess this means im old now a memory of the days when there really was such a thing as Alternative_music

when each band had a distinctive sound
instead of it all being just a
Limp Puddle of Staind Korn all loosely tied together with a Slipknot

Day of the Blink-ing Green Offspring?

(i'll admit, every one of the ones i've named above has done at least one song i DO genuinely like, but it doesn't change the feeling i get that they are all starting to sound alike within their own narrow genres)

I'll admit, it could be worse, it could be:

Britney Aguilera and The 98 New Boys Sync-ing 'N the Backstreets of LF-O-Town

I'll take:

Television

The Germs

Siouxsie_and_the_Banshees (before peepshow)

Circle_Jerks

Joy_division

New_Order

depeche_mode

Pink_floyd

Richard Hell

the_Buzzcocks

the_minutemen

Deep_Purple

The_Stooges

David_Bowie

Velvet_Underground

Front_242

Concrete_Blonde (before Bloodletting)

Nirvana

i could name a few more but i think you know what i'm getting at

jenny enny dots green blink offspring?? Blink 182 sucks. Greenday rules. Do not make any comparison because I hate Blink 182. They sound like little kids and Greenday sound like late 70's punk. I love music. 040116

The Spork Trust me, kid, at my age (36) I'm just barely old enough to remember Punk when it was New and Potentially Dangerous

Green Day ceased to impress me after "Kerplunk!"

I smelled trouble when my family and I went to my parents' house for Thanksgiving and my mom's favorite "Light-Rock" station was playing "Time of your Life" and my mom, who Really Dug shit like 10cc, Three Dog Night and The Captain and Tenille back in the 70's, was humming along.

I had what I would call a "Beavis Moment" right there.

It was like "AAAAAAAAAAAAH Nooooooooooooo!"

But at least they managed to create one whole album that impressed me.

The Offspring are only good when covering old-school tunes or AFI.

And other than "Dammit!" Blink 182 is astoundingly Annoying. I was amazed when I heard Boxcar racer and thought "Fuck! Two-thirds of Blink 182 manages to suck Five Times as Badly")

As far as any newer punk goes, I'm more taken by the likes of AFI (up to Black Sails in the Sunset, because after that, they're really more of a goth-oriented band, which is OK, but ain't quite Punk)
The Distillers
Dropkick Murphys
Anti-Flag
NOFX (and while they do have that annoying snotty mall-kid sound, they are actually pretty sharp, lyrically)
and my perennial Favorite:
Bad Religion

And for the first time since the series began and curiosity drove me to pick up the first one, I picked up a copy of Epitaph's annual "Punk o Rama" compilation and didn't use it as a Digital Frisbee against the nearest brick wall.

This year's double CD is actually Two Thirds good. There are only maybe two tracks that Kinda Suck and a Few others that are Just OK, but I have to give it a solid "Thumbs up" this year
