I'm looking around and it seems absurd the amount of time and effort we put into researching technologies for manipulating one another..it's all about control.
Yes, isn't it amazing the level of precision and control that technology has afforded us? There is NOTHING we can't do.
(?)But why do we need all of these rules? Why all of the lines and the laws and methods of control and surveillance and all of this security what-not?! Why?
We need to protect society from its baser behavior. We need to keep the people who cannot control their brute urges from making things miserable for everyone else.
Well I mean, isn't living in a world where everything is counted and shuttled from here to there in a fairly predictable flow a fairly miserable way to live your life?
It's a necessary sacrifice in a civilized society that keeps the less civilized from imposing their will by force on people.
And we do that by imposing our will by force on them? After we raised them in a society that egged on their "brute urges" in order to capitalise on their tendency to consume goods based on those same urges?
Well, yes, but..it's not that simple. Humans are territorial and materialistic by nature. It's just how we are.
Well then...couldn't we just teach our children NOT to be territorial and materialistic?
No, I'm afraid that's impossible.
(????) I thought you said there was NOTHING we couldn't do.
Well I was wrong. We can't do that.

A child surrounded by people who do not display territorial behavior and who do not act upon materialistic urges and who was, in fact, taught that such urges were undesirable, would in effect, teach themselves not to be territorial or materialistic.
But THAT doesn't put any dollars in our pockets now does it? Hell gimme that Dad as a customer any day. The one with the 6 year old and the 8 year old freshly pulled from in front of the tube. Hell ya. Cha-ching!
