if the devil possessed regan for the statutory period, do you think he has a case for adverse possession?

Well, was it under claim of title? I seem to remember that the possessing demon somewhat recognized his subservient interest. But the bigger issue, I think, was that possession was not exclusive. At all times Regan's soul was also within the demon-possessed body. Also, I'd think that the priests' efforts to evict the demon would toll the statutory period.

that was my analysis as well. although i wasn't clear as to whether or not there was any portion of Regan that was possessed exclusively and continuously as well as whether or not there may have been color of title.

Oh yes, color of title, not claim. That's the thing, you have to memorize exact phrases, almost. On a somewhat related note, do you think that when you sell your soul to Satan, he writes up the contract so that you retain a life estate in yourself, remainder to Satan for all eternity?
