sabbie i have just gone for a walk for lunch, crossing roads filled with broken glass and shiny crumpled metal. newspapers and junk cover the streets.

the city is full of trash.
the CBD is beautiful.
not despite the rubbish and graffitti, but becuase of it.

i know that other people look under the dirt and dust, the grime and worn buildings to see the city underneath. but theyre doing it the wrong way. its not gazing at a girl, seeing the makeup and ignoring the face, its the other way around.

i look behind the shining buildings, i look under the exciting new arcetecture and see the city as she truly is. tired and dirty and keeping up a pretense for those who dont wish to see the reality.

but i see her. and i reconise her.

the city is beautiful and i have fallen in love.

pete the city... hardly exists in my mind. its a stringing together of little villages, where one's neighbours often belong to another jursidiction. though all is connected, the villages find their hub not down any one street, but in the conversations and care one has for their neighbours, regardless of their affiliation. this city is a government town, a high tech town (it was hit hard by the crash a few years ago), but most of all it is many towns focused upon life. parliament is merely a side show. 050622

misstree i've never heard a city
laugh and play
as much as this one.

most pleasant culture shock ever.
let's hope the turbulence of landing
doesn't shake me too bad.
