andru235 for surprising us all
who would have thought
you'd be the first ones to get it?
(the expected contenders were the benelux and scandinavian nations)

(news item: spain legalizes COMPLETE marriage equality for gays/lesbians/bisexuals/transgendered/intersex)

(that is, any two people, regardless of anything, can marry and enjoy the same marriage benefits as anyone else)

andru235 yes, but spain is the first of them to - at a national level - grant complete, comprehensive marriage rights to any and all couples. there is to be no difference whatsoever on any matter for non-traditional couples, from tax-stuff to adoption to end-of-life decisions...

to the netherlands, belgium and canada, thank you also; but each has a stipulation of some sort attached, extremely minimal though they may be. at least, that is the claim at one of the local GLBT presses; thus far it has been as accurate as any other paper. (translation: filled with inaccuracies, ha ha)

incidentally, the constitution of south africa prohibits discrimination of any kind in matters in marriage, or something like that, but i never hear about gay marriage in that nation, so perhaps it is not implemented as such? if it is a functioning clause, however, south africa was the first one to the scene! take that, 'westerners'!
