technology is like a three litre bottle of alcohol. society has been doing shots for about twenty minutes straight (i.e. two centuries). the drive to reach technological singularity is like the urge to drink the whole bottle tonight. what will happen? one will get drunk and pass out, with a risk of alcohol poisoning. we could enjoy the drink over the course of a week, or even a month (i.e. enjoy technologic development over the course of millenia or even longer) but instead we are chuggin' it down like frat children. we are currently so drunk that no one exactly is sure what's going on, and if we don't poison ourselves, soon we'll pass out (i.e. matrix) and not know what has happened. our current technological "mechanism" is shortsighted and childish. there is a grave disrespect amongst the scientific community (esp. the military-industrial complex) as to the hopes and dreams for the planet held by the members of other world communities such as naturalists, artists, spiritualists, and many others. this in itself could be avoided if we would only learn to "drink" with a little moderation. plus, as any mature drinker knows, what a better time can be had when one isn't "totally fucked up", with looming hangover and imminent departure of memory!
