other people presented such a difficulty to sam. he felt everytime he talked to someone, he had to explain everything, all of it, so that if they were to judge him or befriend him, they'd have everything to go on. mainly though, he just thought they weren't worth much of the effort. even little concessions like, "how are you" or "nice weather" seemed to accomplish very little. and for every simple question, there were a thousand ways he felt he could answer, but knew he was largely restricted to one or two scripted responses.

it is amazing how i talk to these people. although we've only hung out once or twice, or three times at the most (minus one notable exception), it is like i've known them for years. or atleast the comfort level is there. one poet to another. mine is the poetry of written and spoken words, theirs of cords and bars and notes...

confusing, unscripted, no scripts or guides to tell you what to say when there's nothing specific to reply to or nothing being discussed or just unsure of how to say yes or no or maybe and how the hell are you supposed to reply to "What's up?" other than a dull "nothing' or inane "the Goodyear blimp" Someone tell me who coined that phrase, so I can ritually burn them...
