epitome of incomprehensibility

(Of Penguins and Walruses) Yesterday I discovered a sentence in the book I am reading (Virginia Woolf's The Voyage Out) in which a character, opposed to praying, says about her children, "So far, owing to great care on my part, they think of God as a kind of walrus". A few weeks ago, the Sunday Opus cartoon featured Opus the penguin running in an election. He flaunts his piety in order to gain votes, but is kicked out of the room when it is discovered that he believes in walrus angels. In another comic, Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel painting, with Adam's hand almost touching God's, is reproduced, except with a walrus in place of God. Coincidence? Probably. At any rate, I have discovered political cartoons are funnier when penguins are included (see Tom Tomorrow as well). Doonesbury should seriously consider this. (I have not seen the movie Happy Feet but I assume it's not overtly political.)
