In the meantime, the FDA is seeking more vaccine for this year. It has 61 million doses. Before Chiron's woes, it expected 100 million, up from 83 million last year. Last year, flu vaccine makers made almost 300 million doses for the global market. Asian manufacturers, which produce mainly for domestic markets, don't offer much hope for excess capacity. That might leave the USA to look at European and North American suppliers:
