Alexander Beetle practicing joinery

Somewhere, I always forget where as soon as I've seen it, I see the phrase "the warp and the woof", or something to that effect. The first definition that inevitably leaps into my mind always makes me giggle, but at the same time I know it can't possibly be correct. To banish the silly image from my head, I seek out the definition of this term, find it, and am at ease. Unfortunately, the same absent-mindedness that deletes it's whereabouts, however, also erases it's meaning, and so the process is repeated time and time again. I think it has to do with wood.
