Former Soviet republics are fantastic. See: Belarus, Ukraine, Baltic States, Finland. Reading Tolstoy and I want to revisit Russia SO badly. Moscow Summer Nights is burned in my memory from the August wind on the Volga. All I talk to my grandmother about now is Minsk. I want to go and walk the streets day and night, have some borscht in a tavern and think of Olenin. It's a fascination, really. I'm no more Belarussian than I am the nationalities of my other grandparents, but for some reason this one means more to me... |
