a thimble in time Flames eating the trees
and licking the sky.
From Los Angeles,
a good thirty miles
from the fiery front,
the horizon is dark brown.
Visibility sucks.
Downtown L.A. has disapeared
behind a cloud of smoke, smog, and ash.
My eyes sting from the dryness.
There isn't a drop of humidity
in the air. An acrid smell fills
the nostrils. Doesn't look good for the folks out there.

endless desire and i can't breathe.
my asthma is so bad, holy crap.
and there's ash on our cars
and our porch
and in our backyard.
everything smells like smoke.
we have to clothes the windows and put blankets in the cracks to keep the smell out.
and i use my machine twice a day so i won't cough so much
because you can feel it when you breathe.
and my people are losing their homes and the places that they love.
my aunt and uncle had to evacuate their house.
where are we going to have thanksgiving if it's gone?

it's a tragedy that hits so close to home.
and now im just glad for once that i live in the city.

xs mom Well, it's been very surreal here the last couple of days. I haven't been
to work because they shut it down. Several hundred homes have been burned
to the ground, over 200,000 acres also. At one point on Sunday I was at
Grandma and Grandpa's with Mikey when Brooke called because the fire had
been in Tierrasanta and some embers had jumped 805 south of Clairemont Mesa,
set the trees on fire next to the freeway, and a burning ember fell in
Doug's backyard and set it on fire. So she was helping her parents pack up
and was telling me I better get home to do the same. So Mikey and I left
right away. When we got to 805 they had closed it down, along with 15 and
52, because Scripps Ranch was on fire as well. So we had to go on 5 and
approach the house from the west. There was ashes on everything, but
apparently, luckily, the fire department had gotten control of it and we weren't in any danger. It really makes you think about what to save and
what's important in life. Now I believe it's mostly the Cleveland National Forest that's on fire, which is pretty awful, but at least it's out of the city. The air quality is terrible even here, so they're telling people to stay home if at all possible. I thought about what you might want from your room too. What IS left that's important to you? Anyway, I'm glad we're all safe.
