hi, i want to make another blatherbook. i'm wondering about materials. sturdiness is a huge concern for me -- like, i want it to have nice, thick pages that can withstand the weight of photographs and other things being pasted to them. i almost bought a regular composition book, but i thought the pages were way too flimsy. i was going to get one of those big-ass scrapbook things, but i don't want mailing this thing around to become prohibitively expensive for myself or anyone else. i could buy a three ring binder and three-hole punch pieces of construction paper into it, but that might have the same large-and-expensive mailing problem as the scrapbook. so, to those who had contact with blatherbook senior -- what was it made out of? how did it hold up? [and yay for mahayana thinking this concept up in the first place]

Just be considerate of postage prices. I sent the blather red book to amber. it cost seven dollars in postage cuz it was so heavy and then it got lost... so it was practically a waste

is interested in a blatherbook, but we need to sort out locations, so people don't have to mail it across 6 countries.

thinking about the whole "weight" problem, maybe once the book's gone round everyone on the list, someone could keep hold of it, after all, there's no reason for it to carry on flying around the world if we've all read the first half. then if someone wanted to read section 'A', they'd email or blathe the 'keeper' of the book.

It's likely to get lost in shipping again. What would a hardcopy book give you (in this case) that a web site could't - except perhaps smell of User24's socks and the thrill of picking up a new contagious virus. Why not create a web site where letters and pics could be posted? Not as tactile but, eminently more practical... ³

I'm not a web programmer. However, I've been telling myself to learn html for awhile now and this might just be the ticket. I could buy a web_programming_for_dummies book. I think I have 10 Megs of space sitting idle with my IP. 10 Megs wouldn't go too far but, I could look into it. I was kinda hoping User24 might pick up on this. He's (?) the web pro... ³

User24; What do you need the cash for and how much space would be enough? ³

well, I'd need a prety huge amount of server space, considering I'd estimate blather at about 4/5 gb (assuming it's all static html, not produced from a database) Of course, I'd make the whole thing databse driven, which would crunch the size and cost down quite considerably (seeing that space restrictions aren't so harsh on databases) I'd need cash to buy a domain name, and the server. Not a huge amount though. Of course, then there's the time it'd take to program the thing (maybe a week). I think next month I'll seriously look into it, tonight, I may blathe my proposal, once I've figured out exactly how to do it, then of course you'll add your own ideas and then I can get on with coding it.
