daf I've known this for awhile now, but for some reason, I neglect to consider it in my day to day dealings with others:

When I state my opinion, or my belief or my theory and someone disagrees with me, it's almost an instinctive reaction to respond to their refutation of what I've said. It's almost as if my silence is an admission that "they got me there!"

But when I've thought about it in the past, I recognized this as just another arena in which we play the game of domination and aggression. I don't believe for a second that debate is healthy. And yet I will debate someone, from somewhere deep in the recesses of my conditioning. In the end, it's just two male dogs trying to hump each other to establish ideological dominance.

I don't want to be a part of that..and yet I am. I don't WANT to place my thoughts within the context of someone else's belief system..and yet I do.

The appropriate response, when someone disagrees with what I've said is to say nothing at all.

No wonder it's said that silence is golden.

unhinged you feel like an asshole
so you bring up the past

and most times
i just sit like a sphinx
blinking at you
maybe a simple 'yes' or 'no'

watching you scramble
to pick up the pieces
you didn't know you dropped
that i didn't know you took
