Schools today are attempting to replace often missing or incompetent parents and in doing so they have taken it upon themselves to teach morality. Since it's very hard to make moral rules fit everyones situation, they wind up bungling the whole operation. Rather than mom and dad taking little Johnny aside and explaining the sheer magnitude of creating a human life, the school has opted to simply tell little Johnny not to altogether, and of course little Johnny will go have sex anyway, most probably without a condom. I think any teachings of morality should be kept at home. Schools should teach the straight facts about sex. Parents should teach their children how to be responsible for their actions, including sex or abstinence.

my school high school taught us about birth control and other such things, avoiding morality entirely. of course there is always someone who has a baby (my town was renowned for it's teen pregnancy rate, fortunately it has improved), or gets an std, but they do their best amorally.

I was referring to the abstinence/waiting until marriage crap that they teach in schools today. Sex ed was really different when I first took it way back in the 5th grade. They stuck us (boys and girls together) inside a fairly large room with a projector, a sex ed film, and tons of fake vaginas and penises scattered around the room. The instructor gave us the basics. We learned what puberty was, about STDs and that "people who have sex should use a condom or the pill." And that was it. No "repent or go to Hell" crap. She even put a condom over her hand to prove the elascticity and showed us how to put one on (she used a cucumber, lol). She also taught us about communication with the opposite sex when it comes to sex, and that we could get free birth control and condoms at the health department. Anyway, I think it sucks when schools nowadays try to stick to the less realistic option hoping that it will steer the kids in the right direction. I'd much rather see the kids be safe rather than sorry by informing them of what precautions to take should they decide to have sex instead of telling them to just not do it.
