unhinged the campaign to raise funds so that the community could buy the mills in youngstown and basically turn them into worker co_ops (no wonder richard wolff is always talking about worker co_ops).

'the 'save our valley' campaign was kicked off on february 16, 1978, at an evening service at the boardman methodist church. years later steelworkers remembered the occasion with awe. the sheet and tube chorus sang the 'ave maria' and the 'battle hymn of the republic.' the new bethel baptist church trio sang 'nobody knows the trouble i've seen.' individual unemployed steelworkers rose to testify. rabbi berkowitz welcomed the attenders; reverend sharick and bishop burt shared lessons from jeremiah and hebrews; reverend norman crewson of the host church led us in an invocation:

leader: unless the lord builds our city,
people: they labor in vain who build it.
leader: unless the lord guards our city,
people: the watchman waits in vain.
leader: o lord, hear our cry;
people: renew the life of our valley.
leader: o lord, make haste to help us!
people: o lord, make speed to save us!'
