Incongruity alert: reading Ezra Pound's Cantos (or tiredly attempting) while listening to klezmer music on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkmFgQ9fM94&feature=related Izhtak Perlman, classical violinist, with some klezmer musicians - at one point they were having a sort of jazz session, which was awesome. My mind: read! read! do not watch video! ...Didn't work. (My project isn't on the Cantos but my illustrious prof. recommended it as background. So, read it I will. Excuse the profanity, but my attitude right now is, fuck the commentary/notes - unless there's something I really want to look up. On the other hand, I shouldn't think that I'll magically comprehend everything - as E. Pound seemed to think he could do sometimes, e.g. with Chinese. But anyway.)

Weird Al. Lower Class Brats. Philip Glass. 9th symphony new for me, and interesting. What is it about ninth symphonies? Beethoven, Dvorak. As for the Cantos ("songs," literally) I DO need the notes for the 42-51 section, as Pound was writing these shortly before writing Guide to Kulchur, and there's a couple of connections I'd like to note in my project's second draft. The fact I might be finished in a month scares me, although I should be happy.

...not a bad thing, necessarily. Probably a side effect of being a better musician. Me, I get distracted without enough distractions. Libraries are great, but I've gotten some good reading done in the (fairly noisy) cafeteria...
