no reason just for the record, successful psychologists make a lot of money. it just costs a lot of money and time to go through the schooling to become one. 031216

misstree realistic_optimist has a bachelor's in psych... i know he had jobs in his field, but they were hard to come by, and oregon has cut their mental health budget severely so jobs have disappeared... if you get a master's, though, your way is paved, as i understand it... 031216

minnesota_chris Psychologists can make a lot of money. You have to be able to work with child rapists every day though, and I hear that can be difficult.

I say, go with Engineering, and just deal with it. A couple more years of annoying classes and hard cram sessions, and you'll be wealthy, or at least relatively well off.

Take it from a Liberal Arts major who works in a restaurant.

blown cherry ok, so just say you were the sor tof person who had already taken the philosophy/marrying a rich spouse option, now what would you recommend choosing as an honours topic out of the universe of ideas on offer? 031216
...
minnesota_chris rich spouse? Huh? What planet do you live on?

I mean, there's plenty of rich folks driving their SUV's around and living in their big houses, but there's plenty more of us peasants...

tyger If you do well enough in Psychology as an undergrad to get into a decent graduate school, your entire master's and Ph.D. will be paid for by your school. Including tuition, insurance and a stipend (usually 1200-1500 a month to live on).

After you get your Ph.D., you can expect to make quite a bit of money. I don't know what clinical psycholgists make, but researchers and professors can expect starting salaries above $65K at major research institutions.

And you don't have to talk to child rapists. There are lots of different types of psychologists who do lots of different things - not just talk to crazy people! But the field is very competitive. Grad schools only take 5-7% of applicants every year so you have to have almost perfect grades, research experience, good GRE's, etc...

third_year_sophomore thanks to everyone that responded, i wasnt expecting informative answers, i was just lost and wanted to ask my question just for the hell of it. NOCTURNAL- i like ur advice, my girlfriend is almost done w/ med school, maybe i should propose to her.
I think im just gonna be a teacher since that would be relatively easy to do and get a job on and i can instill my philosophy to our youths.
