Go there. It's the most amazing and provocative invitation to the audience to engage in an essentially theatrical excersise in entertainment. Phil's show is in the vein of that day several thousand years ago when Thepsis turned fromthe props and actors on the stage and directly addressed the audience. Phil constructs characters form his own life and composites of archetypal personalities and idealized totems figurants that embody the pillars of an antiquated and decaying idealization of authority, authority structures and ...geez I guess what I'm trying to say is Phil via the vehicle of inspired entertaining and often humourus monologue examines the cultural contextualizations that we regardless of ethnicity and class find ourselves mired in. He does this by constructing a community of characters and then dupes "real" callers into engaging him in the defense of his often absurd premise(es) that poke fun at burgoise/blue collar aesthetics. Some of his "act" take the form of purely extended monologues where he sifts the news through the abacus of his own mildly spychotic comedic genious. Some of it is clearly auto-biographical, and you get the feeling that this kind of essentialism of identity as muse and agent of catharsis is the only thing keeping Phil out of the ranks of the criminally insane. ...
