royal street in the french_quarter of new_orleans is lined with antique stores and jewelry stores and galleries of all descriptions, precious items fit to decorate a castle. as an honest to god starving artist, walking along that street with poetry book in hand and nothing but a few pennies and nickels to my name, seeing a $5,000 painted egg strikes to the core. i felt like my life weren't worth that single egg. i felt like the patrons of that establishment agreed. poverty aches deep and hard.
