many stones? two stones.

Miss Scarlet: "You as a mere butler have no access to government secrets. So, i'm afraid your moment has come."

Wadsworth: "Not so fast Miss Scarlet. I do have a secret or two."

Miss Scarlet: "Oh yeah, such as?"

Wadsworth: "The game's up Scarlet. There are no more bullets left in that gun."

Miss Scarlet: "Oh come on, you don't think i'm gonna fall for that old trick."

Wadsworth: "It's not a trick. There was one shot at Mr. Body in the study, two for the chandelier, two at the lounge door, and one for the singing telegram."

Miss Scarlet: "That's not 6."

Wadsworth: "One plus two plus two plus one."

Miss Scarlet: "Nuh uh! There was only one shot that got the chandelier. That's one plus two plus one plus one."

Wadsworth: "Even if you were right, that would be one plus one plus two plus one, not one plus two plus one plus one."

Miss Scarlet: "Ok fine, one plus two plus one... Shut up!! The point is, there is one bullet left in this gun, and guess who's gonna get it?!"

Thoth He sat in the semi-dark of the rainy night as the music played and the rain continued to fall, playing its percussive notes against the roof and porch awning. Pad of paper in hand, he debated whether to tell her off in a letter and disappear into wherever the night the inclination, and his funds would take him - OR - to confront her face to face and unleash the deluge of ugly sentiments he had dammed up along with most of his tears.

He had not made up his mind, but he angrily scrawled in huge characters:

1+1=2
1+1+1=3
1+1+1-1=2
THERE'S ONLY TWO JUST HIM AND YOU

THERE WAS NEVER THREE
BECAUSE YOU NEVER COUNTED ME

He stopped and looked at it, briefly allowing a grim smile to cross his lips before taking another drink and crumbling the sheet of paper and tossing it into the small wastebasket just to the left of the cabinet where the Coldplay disc was now well-past its fifth rotation.

The sun was nearly up and he was quite drunk. Sunday morning was dawning. His spirits, like the last stars, were setting for the night and sleep would overtake him.

When he awoke on the floor, it was early afternoon. The disc was still playing and his head ached as if city engineers had been jackhammering the back of his skull.

The pain in his head was trivial, though, compared to the aching sensation that still burned in his chest and stomach. He left his car in the driveway and walked down the street to call a cab.

As he expected, his answering machine was blinking when he got home.
