evolution is only selfish if viewed as a deliberate, goal oriented system with purpose. this only works in the review of past events and somtimes in the predictive constructs we use to project our will onto future events (breeding programs, petrie culture experiments etc). evolution is not a force, or an organizing principle. it is an observation. it is a way of thinking about what came before the present that helps us to construct the truths we call natural science. we engage in this truth very much the way christian scientists engage in theirs. we use different first principles and the discipline of the scientific method. they use faith in a document. evolution, like all belief systems, is a human construct.
