In conversation with a professor's lawyer husband over dinner, we got on the topic of the Alberta RCMP officers murdered last week in what was supposed to be a substantial drugbust. The news would have you believe, as this prof's husband did, that the young officers were poorly prepared, that their armor sucked, or that they didn't knows weapons and tactics well enough to save their lives.
Well crime is committed by criminals. Oh, you can blame society, but ultimately there is that pinge in the criminal that he must shut out of his mind and pull the trigger. Well, unless he's mental. So then the criminal may not be at fault, but IT IS STILL NOT THE VICTIM'S FAULT.
First off, no armour was shielding those high-powered bullets. Second, make no mistake, they were ambushed. The suicide note was ready, and they were under fire before they knocked on the door. Four RCMP officers were not going in for a firefight. It was an arrest. They were not to blame.
Terrorists like to blame their victims.
