My aunt Myrna got her name thusly: One of her great uncles was dying from Meningitis. As the disease took him into delirium, he kept saying "Myrna" over and over again. No one in the family knew anyone named Myrna. After he finally succumbed, his sister suggested that the next girl born in the family be named Myrna in his honor. Well, the next girl born was named Donna, much to the aunt's dismay, but then the girl born after that was named Myrna. Myrna contracted Meningitis. No one else in the family has gotten the disease since. |
